Rose Craft Wins Award for Honoring Traditional Swazi Culture
BY Marcella Echavarria | August 26, 2010
I am very proud of their award for best booth at Sarcda!
Inspired by traditional Swazi beehive huts known as Gucqasithandaze, which means kneel and pray, Rose Craft (www.swazirosecraft.com) designed the winning booth at the recent Sarcda Gift Show in Johannesburg (www.sarcda.co.za). This is the first time a Swazi company gets this award which this year was focused on design as an expression of the local spirit.
Traditional Swazi homesteads are grass-domed beehive huts. In a polygamous society, each wife has her own hut and yard circled by reed fences with three separate sections for sleeping, cooking and storage.
