Rosella Namok brings a new energy to Aboriginal art

Namok paints wet and dry scenes of her much loved Lockhart River, Australia using old techniques such as finger painting originated from the sand drawing style thaught by her grandmother and the body painting from her father who was the painter of dancer's bodies for tribal ceremonies at Lockhart River. There are also symbolic references in her paintings of the ceremonial traditions and issues of her land.
She sees her work as a way of recording and preserving the Indigenous knowledge of her people for future generations.

She is the youngest Aboriginal artist to accomplish a widespread success by being represented in national institution collections and galleries around the world.
